----- OBITUARY -----

James H. Mortimer

Still another death from diphtheria. It is our sad duty this week to chronicle another death in the family of Mr. John Mortimer, Scotch Line, Anson, of diphtheria. This time the disease carried off his oldest son, James, a fine promising boy of nearly 15 years of age. Making the third victim to the disease in his family, while three other of his children are in a very precarious condition. This includes three of Mr. Mortimer’s family, with the exception of one little boy that has been sent away from home to avoid it. Mr. Mortimer is one of the most respected settlers in the township, being a kind-hearted, good neighbor, ever ready to do a kind act, or speak a kind work to those who need it, and he and his wife have the most profound sympathy of the entire community in this their hour of trial and sad affliction. Lindsay Post, Sept. 18, 1885.
